Hi, I’m Erin.
My first experience with yoga was following along with my mom's VHS tape in the living room when I was ten years old. It didn't quite stick at the time, but years later, I found yoga again, in the form of a sweaty vinyasa class.
After struggling through the class and thinking that yoga probably wasn't for me, the class ended with a pose called savasana. It was the most peaceful few minutes of my life and from then on, I’ve dedicated myself to learning, practicing, and sharing the practice.
I think it matters less what a yoga practice looks like and more how it affects your body, mind, and energy. My philosophy is that all of our practices can be and should be somewhat unique depending on what we each need. Over the years, my own practice has looked different depending on what a season of life calls for. Sometimes it’s mindful movement, and other times it’s more breathwork, meditation, or philosophical study. As a teacher, my focus is teaching asana (poses and movement) and my intention is always to point you back to awareness and embodiment of your inherent health, happiness, and peace. I always aim to create a welcoming, challenging, and compassionate space when teaching and strive to guide the practice in a way that is relevant and beneficial for modern practitioners while appreciating its ancient roots. I admit, I don’t always do this perfectly and it’s an ongoing practice of integrity and awareness in and of itself.
I have an E-RYT designation through Yoga Alliance, with a 200-hr certification from Atlanta’s Peachtree Yoga, and a 300-hr certification from YogaWorks, where I was mentored by Erika Trice. Always a student, I have also studied the iRest method of Yoga Nidra Meditation with Richard Miller, Restorative yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater, Ashtanga with Sava Giorgi Savaneli, Yin yoga with Mahapatha Yoga, and the Roll Model method of Myofascial stimulation with TuneUp Fitness. In addition to being inspired by all of these teachings and more, my approaches to teaching and practice are also partially informed by twenty years of classical ballet experience.
When I’m not teaching or practicing, I’m either snuggling my baby daughter, Stevie, walking in whatever nature-y place I can find in Atlanta, or getting zero answers correct while watching Jeopardy with my my husband, Douglas.
